On April 15, 2017, a group of volunteers and I helped pick up trash at Coyote Creek. The main goal of this event is to provide a clean environment for the community. This was my very first time attending a Coyote Creek clean up and I got to say, this was an amazing experience.
The weather was perfect! It was a warm and sunny morning full of energetic individuals who were ready to work.
The majority of the people who attended the clean up were local families and high school students. However, there were a couple students from San Jose State as well. The event was well managed and my team leader made everyone feel safe. It was nice seeing children participate in this event because they are getting involved at a young age. As a result, I will definitely bring my six year old daughter with me next time. I believe that it is important to educate children and get them involved to volunteer at a young age because they are the future!
While picking up trash down at the creek, I stumbled across a couple of crazy objects. Unfortunately, I was not able to identify which animal these bones belonged to.
Overall, this was an amazing experience. As a San Jose State Student and a Justice Studies major I learned that it is important to keep our environment clean and safe for local individuals. The reason to this is because people can get sick by environmental contamination. A dirty environment poses a threat to the health and well-being of all people. It is time to take action and make a difference in our communities.
