My name is Alex, and I am 13 years old, and BioBlitzes and the other things that the Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful community does are fantastic. Here is why.
Local Wildlife
To begin with, BioBlitzes have taught me about local wildlife and the environment in the San Jose area. As a result, I realize how expansive and wonderful my local wildlife is right in my backyard, but I never realized that! This has made me want to learn and explore my local natural environment.
Family Time
Next, BioBlitzes has connected me with my family. Before BioBlitzes, I had a good relationship with my dad, but we wanted something to do to connect more. This is when we discovered BioBlitzes. We have now started going to almost every BioBlitz, we volunteer, and my dad is on the Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful board. This shows how BioBlitzes can connect you and your family, or even go with friends.
Hobbies
Finally, BioBlitzes has given me numerous new hobbies and experiences. At a BioBlitz, a docent with experience with wildlife leads us on a nature walk and teaches a group about the local wildlife. As a result, I decided to go on nature walks myself to explore what else is out there, where I now hike and explore my local environment and even some National Parks. When I saw the beautiful wildlife, I started bird watching with my dad, and I realized how many local birds we have and how they interact in my local park.
To conclude, BioBlitzes have taught me about my local wildlife and environment, connected me and my family, and given me new hobbies. A bonus is that they are fun and everyone is nice and friendly. I hope to see you there soon.
